The world of poker was turned upside down this week when an interview with 2006 World Series of Poker champion, Jamie Gold, appeared in the New York Times. During the course of the interview, Gold admitted to reporters that he violated the poker rules twice during the WSOP main event. With the 2007 World Series of Poker around the corner, many have eagerly awaited the official response from tournament organizers, who seem to be willing to look the other way in Gold’s case. Since gambling was first legalized in New Jersey in 1978, the casinos of Atlantic City have faced more than their fair share of obstacles. They have endured hurricanes, blizzards, and the collapse of a parking garage. Last year the casinos were even closed due to a State budget crisis, and more recently the city has been plagued by a serial killer targeting prostitutes. Despite all of this, gaming revenues at the casinos have always skyrocketed, increasing each year, until now. Read more

It has been confirmed that the local government in Ontario has tightened its grip on online gambling advertisements. According to the passed bill, online businesses which run advertisement for online gambling intended for Ontario residents are no longer able to do it. Search engine queries were excluded from the interpretation for advertisement, however, websites, TV, radio and paper publications are no longer allowed to run ads for internet gambling websites. The Canadian province of Alberta is again making headlines in the online gambling industry. It was just announced that the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) is conducting a survey among its residents to find out how they feel about online gambling, with the question focusing mostly on the games of poker, blackjack and bingo. The survey started through the phone in the beginning and now it’s spreading online, as well. However, spokesman for the AGLC said that it will take a long time before, and if, the local government allows Internet gambling websites from outside the province to operate on its jurisdiction.
